A children's museum is a place where children learn through play.

The Children's Museum Bonaire engages children and their families through interactive play, encouraging them to discover and develop their talents and interests while connecting with the culture, art, and nature of Bonaire.

Explore, imagine, discover!

Welcome to the heart of the Children’s Museum Bonaire! Our themes are designed to inspire curiosity, creativity, and a love for learning. From exploring art and culture to diving into science, nature, and literacy, each theme offers hands-on experiences that spark imagination and discovery. Join us on this exciting journey of exploration!

Arts

Children are encouraged to express themselves through art in a way that is personal and unique to them. Instead of focusing on a specific outcome, they explore their creativity, using different materials and techniques to reflect their thoughts and feelings. This helps them develop self-expression, confidence, and a deeper understanding of the world around them.

Science

Science encourages children to explore, ask questions, and experiment, helping them build critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Through trial and error, they learn resilience, creativity, and innovation by testing theories and observing outcomes. Psychologist Karen Young reminds us, “When we give children permission to fail, we give them permission to be brave.”

Nature & Sustainability

Children are invited to explore Bonaire’s unique ecosystems, from mangroves to coral reefs, and learn about the importance of preserving them. Through engaging activities and exhibits, they discover how nature and sustainability are deeply connected. This fosters a sense of responsibility, environmental awareness, and a passion for protecting Bonaire’s natural beauty.

WANTED: LOCATION

We are currently in the process of securing a location. Once finalized,
we will collaborate closely with the children of Bonaire to determine
the final themes.

Kindermuseum? … Children’s Museum?

Discover & play!

Children’s museums emphasize the importance of play as a universal way for children to learn and understand their world. Unlike formal schooling, the learning is multi-sensory, multi-disciplinary, and tailored to various developmental levels, fostering growth, life skills, and a deeper understanding of their environment.

Learn through experiences

Children’s museums focus on how children learn, offering participatory exhibits and programs that support cognitive, physical, and social-emotional growth. Thoughtfully designed with child development best practices, these spaces seamlessly integrate exhibits, programming, and visitor experiences to nurture brain development during the critical early years.

Thematic spaces

Children’s museums often feature dedicated spaces for babies and toddlers, designed specifically for their developmental needs. These areas support early physical, social, emotional, and cognitive growth, laying the foundation for lifelong learning. Toddler zones encourage safe risk-taking, fostering independence as young children crawl, climb, and explore in environments tailored to their size and abilities.
